The purpose of this project is to
determine if strategically placed hydrofoils, at the bend of rivers, could
help reduce the amount of erosion. The formula used for our C++ program
determined the amount of lift produced by a hydrofoil. By determining the
amount of lift that was produced by a stationary hydrofoil, the effect
that hydrofoils have on water was determined. The formula to determine
lift is: L = Cl(½)pV2*S Cl is the coefficient of lift. This is multiplied
by half the density of water (p). This is in turn multiplied by the velocity
of the water (V) squared and this is multiplied by the surface area (S)
of the hydrofoil. The result was the force of lift (L), in Newtons.
