What this model is trying to achieve is how radiation from a nuclear power plant travels through the workforce, and in turn the citizens. ## ## HOW IT WORKS When you hit the "setup" button, many things happen. A few of the more major things that are added to the world include, the workforce and citizens (green and blue people), the power plant (diffused, white center), an invisible border around the power plant, and each person is given an energy level (which you can adjust with the slider). When you hit the "go" button, the workers (green) start to walk forward in random directions. The workforce is represented by the green people. As the workers reach a certain level of radiation (white), they gain a radiation level. Depending on the level of the original radiation (white), they will have different levels. These different levels of radiation, per worker, can spread radiation. ## ## HOW TO USE IT When you are using the interface tab, you need to first hit the "setup" button. This adds the people of the workforce (green). Next, you need to hit the "source" button. This button adds the radiating power plant in the middle. The "restrict" button, is used to add restrictions to the power plant, that only certain people can enter (green/red workforce). The citizens (blue/yellow) may not enter this area. If you do decide to add the restrictions to better enhance the real-world application, there is a slider labled "edge". This slider changes the size of the restricted area. You can increase and decrease the area of restriction. This feature is optional. To start the model, hit the "go" button. The "go" button allows the workforce to walk in randomized directions. The "go" button is a "forever" type of button, so it continually has the people walk. ## ## THINGS TO NOTICE You may want to notice that you can adjust the size of the restricted area, as mentioned above. ## ## THINGS TO TRY When using the model, you may want to try to experiment with the sliders, such as the "edge" slider (changes restricted area). There is also a switch (show-radiation?), that shows the radiation level. ## ## EXTENDING THE MODEL This section could give some ideas of things to add or change in the procedures tab to make the model more complicated, detailed, accurate, etc. ## ## NETLOGO FEATURES This section could point out any especially interesting or unusual features of NetLogo that the model makes use of, particularly in the Procedures tab.
